Video: Pete Doherty interview/performance on Jonathan Ross

Jun 30, 07

Here we have a specimen who just so happens to be one of the culture of me's most infatuation-getting figures in pop.  Pete Doherty sits down with Johnathan Ross from Channel 4 and discusses what life is like with Kate, the paparazzi, getting back in good graces with Carl Barat and the potential for more from the Libertines, what it's like getting advice from strangers and how he thinks about the future tense.

Part One: Pete performs an as-yet-released track from the upcoming Babyshambles release called "The Lost Art of Murder", then sits down with Ross.

Part Two: continued sit-down with Jonathan Ross.

Video: Kanye West - "Stronger"

Jun 29, 07

Wh-what?!  This is some crazy dope ass shit right here.  First off, only Kanye can pull off the made-for-Back-2-the-Future-part-2 sunglasses.  Second, the Japanese characters that pop and crack throughout are very reminiscent of this whole graphic novel coming to life kind of vibe that many directors have been rocking.  I mean, none of this is Hype Williams-class-echelon shit, but it's still amazing looking.  And dig on some of these lyrics:

Do anybody make real shit anymore?
Bow in the presence of greatness
Cause right now thou has forsaken us
You should be honored by my lateness
That I would even show up to this fake shit
So go ahead go nuts

Go ape shit
'specially on my best stand on my bape shit
Act like you can't tell who made this
New gospel homey take six, and take this, haters

Oh, and ANYONE who can riff a sample from Daft Punk and make something like this is, um, well like Kanye says, "genius".

mp-FREE: 120 Days - "Justine"

Jun 29, 07

Norway seems to be a fun place to be.  I mean, if you're into greasy spoon eateries, leather jackets and fast women, by all means head on over.  We think.  The culture of me's never been, but regardless, we'd like to hang on to our feelings about the place, if only by listening to more 120 Days.  Oh, and just because we like NEU! as much as we'd hope these guys do, here's a freebie.

News: Thursday is releasing CD/DVD on Victory (?)

Jun 29, 07

Friends!!!

We have some exciting news!!! We know that everyone is wondering what is next for us (New Label? New Record? Touring? Breaking up?). We're proud to announce that we will be releasing a DVD/CD on our former label, Victory Records. Surprise! A lot of the footage from this DVD was taken during the time we spent on Victory and we thought it was appropriate to release it with them. On a more personal note, many of you know that our parting with Victory was bitter on both sides and we're taking this chance to put that behind us. That label really helped us get to where we are and we helped them to establish themselves as well... "coming full circle" and "making amends" are some of the phrases that we could throw around here but we think you get the picture already. Tony's passion for this project and his continued support of the band after all these years has helped to make this an easy decision.

We're really looking forward to this release. The DVD will be a retrospective of our band’s career so far(footage from the last nine years) with a ton of live stuff. Everyone always says we're much better live than on record-- now you can decide. The CD will have several new tracks(!) and some alternate versions and demos of older songs.

Once the DVD and CD are complete, we will be starting work on a new album soon after and the home for that has yet to be determined.

- THURSDAY

The DVD/Album package will be in stores October 30, 2007.

News: EA unveils artists who soundtrack "Madden NFL 08"

Jun 28, 07

Digital Music News reports:

The game, an institution among gamers, has helped to propel a number of artist careers over the years.  The soundtrack for the 2008 edition features MIMS, Queens of the Stone Age, Daddy Yankee, The Used, Yellowcard, Sum 41, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Swizz Beatz,  Pharoahe Monch, and Ozzy Osbourne, according to information disclosed Thursday.  That is a star-heavy list, though EA is also featuring songs from lesser-known acts like Atreyu, Datarock, Operator and Enter Shikari.

The playlist is guaranteed to receive heavy rotation, and translates into heavy awareness and subsequent sales for included artists.  "The annual goal of the Madden NFL soundtrack is to give unprecedented exposure to new artists, bring established stars to a whole new level, and single-handedly define the sound of the coming year via the biggest sports franchise in video game history," declared Steve Schnur, worldwide executive of Music and Marketing at EA.

We don't know how this is going to hold a candle to EA's earlier "holy indie soundtrack" to "MLB 2K7", but we guess we'll just have to wait and see.  And hell.  Can't wait to see how this will affect "Guitar Hero 4".  Maybe.

News: Rahim recording, touring, cooking

Jun 28, 07

(credit Michah Weiner)

From their own MySpace bulletin's mouth:

We'll be recording our next full length, Laughter, in Baltimore with J. Robbins from July 16 to July 25th. Hopefully it'll be out next spring.

We also have a recipe in Kara Zuaro's great new cook book "I Like Food. Food Tastes Good." There are a bunch of great bands and great recipes in there. It can be found at amazon.com and your local book store.

And finally, we'll be going to Europe in November. We have confirmed dates in France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. And in the coming weeks we'll have more confirmations. The tour will be about 3 weeks in length. But as of right now, we don't have any plans to visit the UK. Sorry! Hopefully next time.

<3

Rahim

You can stream a demo of Laughter's "Every Passing Night" on the MySpace page too.  This is the follow-up to one of our favorite releases in recent memory, 2006's Ideal Lives.

Hooray.
