Emerging: Mannequin Men

Aug 24, 07

Somewhere nestled between "Strychnine", Paul Revere & the Raiders, Ron & Scott Asheton and The Ponys circa Turn the Lights Out is a little room on the shelf for Chicago natives Mannequin Men.

And while garage rock revival and boozy instrumentation aren't necessarily a new thing to any of our ears, you have to give it up to a band like this.  Sharing stages with The (aforementioned and also Chicago come-uppers) Ponys or more recent luminaries of blood, filth and urine, The Black Lips is seemingly no easy task.  And filling your songs with this many shout-shout-guitar filler-shout-shout histrionics can run the risk of being redundant and thereby, well, quite honestly, no fun.  But the kids of MM don't seem to be bothered by either case.  Inducing the same fervor at shows as their Atlanta drinking-your-own-piss friends in Black Lips without all that goes along with, er, drinking your own piss, Mannequin Men even SOUND sweaty and out of (but still sort of in) control.

Mannequin Men are on tour now, behind their newest full length, Fresh Rot.
