Emerging: Fever Marlene
Nov 07, 07

What do UWM, vintage bike shoppers and converted shoe factories have in common? If you guessed that they all have something to do with Fever Marlene, well, you just really know how to pay attention to the titles of blog posts, huh? Yeah, you do.
Milwaulkee's best kept secret (next to how they can actually market Milwaukee's Best Light with a straight face), this dynamic two-piece, consisting of Scott Starr on things with strings or keys and Kevin Dunphy on the sticks, have a bent for the swaggering rock of old, mixed in with some of the Britpop tones of the sort of not so old, all wrapped up in the sweat of the horde of the "The ____________" bands of the 2000s.
It may be the wrong thing to say that "failed stints" in both Los Angeles and the windy city brought these two guys back to their alma mater and the 4000 square foot space they now write, record, produce, paint, sculpt and design in, but that's what happened. The guys now find themselves there, sitting pretty behind the just-released (and self-released, at that) debut, Civil War, which just may be the most fitting title for this record one could think of. Just sit back and listen to the following tracks and you'll see what we mean. You should definitely be prepared to hear much more about the boys in Fever Marlene just about any minute now.
