Emerging: The Mood
Nov 25, 07

Being a band in the New York City scene is sometimes a terrible thing. What we mean is, sometimes it's hard for a band who plays in and around Gotham (who will more often than not get lumped into the NYC "scene" as the only description for them) to break out of that mold easily; to rise above it.
The Mood, a five-piece power pop band from these city streets, are unafraid of this. Fearlessly playing music easily found on the modern rock radio dial, in the soundtracks to your favorite MTV shows (ahem..."The Hills" music supervisor, take notice), even billowing through the soundsystem of your friendly neighborhood dive bar, these kids create a musical antidote for the grit and grime that consumes so many of our fair city's inhabitants.
Full disclosure: over half of the band's members were originally from the Ft. Lauderdale area, so that's a direct reason (for us, at least) for the sunny vibe we got in the songs. It usually takes a lot for a small-time (no disrespect meant there) band to get big-time notice, but The Mood has already achieved that notch in their mod-styled belt. After two self-released records, the band has landed spots at SXSW and CMJ, they've been featured on both websites and in BlackBook. The band was also tapped for MTV2's Dew Circuit Breakout competition as well as had the prestigious (?) honor of having their songs featured in that network's big brother's programs "The Real World/Road Rules Challenge" and "The Real World: Sydney".
Keep your ear to the ground for these guys and if you go out anywhere in NYC, keep your eyes peeled too. We're sure you'll run into Marco or one of the other kids in The Mood at some point on the lower east side if you're not careful.
