Sally Shapiro is a 25 years removed musical doppelganger for Terri Nunn and her 80s powerhouse, Berlin. Swear. But rather than fill the melody's voids with harsh take-charge attitude and innuendo, Shapiro's charming synth pop compositions (courtesy of Swedish producer Johan Agebjörn) turn inwards, showcasing an almost teenager-in-love's confusing state of timidity, surprise, mistrust and pain, all wrapped in bows by oohs and ahhs. Disco Romance, Shapiro's debut release just came out on October 30 from Paper Bag Records.
