Emerging: Chris Price

Dec 14, 07

Usually (and this is true), if you happen to have ever made music for the porn industry, we here at the culture of me will not make nice with you.  It's not that we hate on porn (believe me, we don't), it's just, the music is, well, terrible with a capital "t".  Not to mention the fact that the proprietors of said sounds are not usually the best musicians or songwriters.  It's more often than not the opposite.

For Chris Price, a DJ and musician from Washington, D.C., this is merely a footnote in his impressively weird musical evolution.  Not only did he do the above (not the porn, just the soundtracks), but he also helped to write music for local weather forecasts and (seriously, we're not joking) religious film soundtracks.

All of this would be somewhat strikes against the guy at first, but once you hear some of the tracks from his impressively electro pop debut, Post Pop Parade (clever!), you'll be turned into a fan.  Mixing the glitch and bomp of German electro and synths (think Ellen Allien) and the pop of the 80s (Human League, Telex), Price adds his own vocal styles to the potion, therein creating something wild.  It's not terribly inventive or original, but it works.  And that's enough for us to tag him as "emerging".  Get a copy of Post Pop Parade and try not to think about the XXX leanings of Price at first.  We promise it'll do the trick.
