The Big Sleep visit La Blogotheque
Jan 25, 08
Brooklyn's finest weirdo-experimental-rock trio The Big Sleep are always up to no good. In terms of hype, these guys were the tops in 2006 and 2007 as far as NYC bands went, playing pretty much wherever they could to basically anyone who had a hot minute to listen. They are certainly one of the more polarizing bands as of late, inciting near-violent derision from some and almost-deification from still others. They played a show at the Mercury Lounge here in NYC for New Year's Eve, which we totally would've gone to see if we weren't throwing our own shindig at the Silent Barn. But we get a second chance for sure, as they're playing the same venue on February 21, just two days after releasing the follow-up to the stellar Son of the Tiger, with openers Sian Alice Group, Priestbird, and Heavy Creatures.
But first, in other teaser news, they recently burrowed deep in the woods of New York City (location unknown by us) to record for the wonderful Take Away Show series of La Blogotheque, who you'll remember has done things like this for everyone from Grizzly Bear to Arcade Fire to The National to pretty much anyone else they can find in the indie rock community.
Sleep Forever comes out February 19 via Frenchkiss. Here's two tracks from the record.
