Fights: Victory Records eats bloggers for breakfast

Feb 08, 08

In yet another example of the machination of one of the used-to-be-meritorious and in-good-standing-with most-fans record label helmed by Tony Brummel, Victory Records is going after one specific person in what to the culture of me looks like an iron-clad no bullshit lawsuit for leaking tracks.  We have to stand by Victory on this one as we don't like to be that guy who puts pre-release non-promo tracks up.  We've been through the paper wringer on that a few times in the past, so the label does have enough legs to stand by (and by "legs", we of course mean lawyers) and anyone who still does that after being asked to cease and desist is sort of tempting the wrong fates.

Date: Feb 8, 2008
Subject: PIRACY and ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING
Body: At Victory we give away a lot of free music to help expose our artists. Unfortunately, there are some individuals that do things that are illegal, upsetting and sometimes offensive to them. Dead To Fall, Farewell To Freeway, Secret Lives of the Freemasons and Across Five Aprils have asked us to make a news post about one such person. He could have easily embedded VictorStream (which was mentioned to him) on his blog to share music and video but chose to continue to do otherwise. He has been asked nicely by the bands to take down their material. When he refused we had no choice but to defend our artists’ wishes by having a more official “take down” letter sent. The bands would like you to let this person know what you think by going to his blog: http://chrisxavier.blogspot.com/

Piracy is theft and theft is wrong. Thanks to those that truly support our artists and their wishes.
