Video: Busta Rhymes featuring Linkin Park - "We Made It"

Apr 30, 08

Seriously, we have nothing to say about this.  A little piece of us has broken off and died.  We can't take any more of this literally-earthquaking abuse.  What the fuck Linkin Park and Busta?  The end has no end.

Live: Kidz in the Hall CD release party at S.O.B.'s

Apr 30, 08

Another Chicago throwback hip hop group is burning us bare on playlists as of late, and they go by Kidz in the Hall.  The UPenn graduates are releasing their sophomore record, The In Crowd, and will be celebrating the release at S.O.B.'s downtown.

If you like The Cool Kids, Kid Sister, et al., obviously you'll be macking out to Kidz in the Hall.  Hell, even the next U.S. president (yup, we're calling it), Barack Obama, is on their side, and he's even featured their song, "Work to Do" in his campaign effort.

mp-FREE: Immuzikation (Athens DJ) takes on Biz Markie + Shirley Ellis's jump-rope theme

Apr 30, 08

This cat who calls himself Immuzikation (what?) won't leave the mash-up genre alone.  The Athens, GA tweaker sent us an email a bit ago today with an old track he worked on.  It rips up "Just A Friend" and pops in the 1965 hit from the Bronx-born Shirley Ellis, "The Clapping Song".

If you don't know the song (which we suppose you could actually NOT know it if you were born, say, after 1985 or something and have no want for knowledge previous to NKOTB), it went like this:

Three, six, nine
The goose drank wine
The monkey chewed tobacco on the streetcar line
The line broke, the monkey got choked
And they all went to heaven in a little row boat

Anyway, enjoy it.  It's brilliant and should immediately be added to your iTunes playlist or whatever.

Video: Panda Bear's stop-motion extravaganza on La Blogotheque

Apr 30, 08

"Comfy in Nautica" in stop-motion is probably the greatest thing to happen to "Comfy in Nautica" since all of those "Panda Bear is merely a rip of Brian Wilson" references.  The video podcast series "Piticlips" from La Blogotheque is, simply, divine.

News: Goes Cube tours; records; is awesome.

Apr 30, 08

So that's how they come up with their song numbers?  Bowling scores?

So, you all totally know already that the dudes of epicly awesome and wonderfully loud Goes Cube played great sets at SXSW and then did a show at Magnetic Field under a new nom de rock as a surprise, but what you weren't aware of (probably) was that since then, the trio has spent even more time in their practice space than usual, writing new music while also putting final touches and tweaks to the newer material that they’d been playing on the road.

Oh yeah, and something about prepping for another tour, too.  The jaunt will, for the first time, have the boys heading outside the borders of the U.S. - to Toronto.  It also brings the gang to uncharted Cube territories aside from the Canadian landscape (Athens, Indianapolis, Detroit).  Many of the dates will be shared with the not-so-abstractly-named Necropolis.  The tour starts on May 30, and it brings them back to New York by June 9.  Watch out for another update with a show in our area around that time.

Also (we know, more?), Goes Cube will be back in the studio with producer, Dean Baltulonis who they worked with on their latest, Beckon the Dagger God. In 4 days, the band aims to record 5 songs: “Goes Cube Song 58,” “Goes Cube Song 60,” “Goes Cube Song 61,” “Goes Cube Song 62,” and “Goes Cube Song 63.”

Shortly after they return from tour, the band will make available one of the newly recorded songs.  For now, enjoy “Goes Cube Song 50,” check out their tour schedule, and tell your friends (the Canadian ones, the Ohioans, et al.).

mp-FREE: Bulimiatron remixes The Beach Boys' "Louie Louie"

Apr 29, 08

And it's ridiculous.  For serious.  This shit is crazy and we can't get it out of our heads.  Much like the original.  Bulimiatron is official.  Bliptastic.

Emerging: Bella Noir

Apr 29, 08

Somewhere between the dark new wave of a band like Electrelane (R.I.P.) and the pop sensibilities of The Long Blondes lies an opening to fill.  New York's Bella Noir is stepping up.  The batch of songs the band has created and dubbed Premonitions is testament to a band that's on the brink of something spectacular.  Enchanting, Siouxsie-inspired vocals.  A tighter-than-SPANX backbeat.  Everything reverberates and wallows out from the center, immediately grabbing the listener.

Check out these two tracks and try and tell yourself you don't instantly want to hear more.  Some seriously dark, seriously fun stuff is to be found from these guys in the future.  Premonitions is out now.

Web: Sign o' the Times

Apr 29, 08

Quite possibly the greatest thing to happen to the web version of The New York Times is the fact that they need to have advertisers.  We mean, need.  All obviousness when considering how the physical versions of media are dying out and bowing to their virtual versions.

Which brings us to this advertisement for what is soon to become the hottest selling video game in history, the lift-NYC-and-rename-it-or-something "Grand Theft Auto IV".  You too can play the game where you can sell drugs, kill cops, beat up hookers, and totally speak Russian.  Awesome times eleven.

The paper is now running ads on their website for the game and, well, it's just funny to us.  And it should be funny to you, as you'll see once you click the picture.  See where the ad was placed and check out the other stories that the Times is running right now in its vicinity.

mp-FREE: Neon Coyote vs. M.I.A - "Jimmy"

Apr 29, 08

Seriously?  Neon Coyote will not leave us alone.  For real.  These Brooklyn kids just keep on ripping, without worry.  Gone are the Bollywood vibes of Maya's original banger and in their stead, the boys pop in what could be the most proper beats they've done that would be instantly purchased by Talib Kweli.  Get that dude on the phone.

News: Black Kids give details of next single

Apr 29, 08

Jacksonville's most rhythmic young'ns, Black Kids, sent out a message via MySpace this morning, giving away all of the details you and us need to know about their next single, off of their self-titled debut (debut meaning "with label backing") record.  The song is "Hurricane Jane" and, according to the message, two different versions will be available: two 7” singles and a CD, both of which will include the new tracks "You Only Call Me When You're Crying" and "Power In The Blood".  The single hits shelves June 23.
