News: Red Hot Chili Peppers disband for a year

May 22, 08

We've totally had a lot of animosity towards the guys in Red Hot Chili Peppers for a number of years now, basically coming about after how amazing we thought all of their records were until they tried to follow up the massive (and admittedly, the first record  we heard by them), Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic.  All the records that came out after that, well, we despised.  But with news breaking now that the gang are taking a hiatus, which by all accounts could be for a year or worse, ever, we're all sorts of ambivalent.  We can't tell if we're okay with them maybe breaking up.  Or maybe we are.  Kiedis told Rolling Stone magazine:

"We're disbanded for the moment," he said. "We took a very long time to make the Stadium Arcadium record. It was a gruelling, long haul and it followed two other very long hauls, Californication and By the Way.

"So we didn't really stop until the tour ended last year. We were all emotionally and mentally zapped at the end of that run. The discussion was, 'Let's not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things.'"
