Video: Gnarls Barkley - "Going On"

May 10, 08

We've come to a very simple decision about the relationship between Gnarls Barkley and groups like Outkast.  We know that we're creating a lightning rod (a fairly large one at that) by even including both these groups alongside each other in this theorem, but we just have to.

Both groups celebrate a known fact among people of African descent that those of us sans melanin cannot understand.  That is, whereas the belief is normally held up that a renaissance happened in Europe around the 15th century, people like Andre, Big Boi, Cee-lo and Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton have the understanding that the entirety of black culture and it's evolution (from independence to appropriation and back again in this cycle) is and should be construed as yet another of these "renaissances".  One to be celebrated and one that is presently being continued.  We couldn't agree more.
