mp-FREE: Does It Offend You, Yeah? remix The Faint

Jul 31, 08

Fasciinatiion is out August 5 on The Faint's own blank.wav imprint.  The dude's be going out on tour as previously blogged here, so, you know, catch them.  Honestly, we've never posted at all about Does It Offend You, Yeah? and we honestly can't say why.  Maybe it was the name and us thinking it was too fucking snotty to even cover, but these guys make "The Geeks Were Right" so good it's almost like you didn't even know what the original sounded like.  This is better, sorry.

Photos: Tuesday takeovers at Lit

Jul 31, 08

Welcome to the new world.  Tuesdays are officially being thrown for a loop weekly, as this new party we're involved in, from the kids at Danse Promotions, is going to completely complicate your early-week goings-on's.  Bad Decision and Alex English were guesting for the night, with bangers all around provided by resident DJ Holla.

Video: MGMT - behind the scenes of "Electric Feel"

Jul 31, 08

Remember way back a few weeks ago when we posted the hallucinatory video that was "Electric Feel"?  Well, we didn't think it could get worse, but, um, it has.  You now can spend 12 minutes watching the Brooklyn duo called MGMT (stop saying "management"...for real) hang out with balloons, animal puppets, half-naked kids and blue screens.  We thought it was hilarious, in a half-sad sense that is.

Matador Records' wildest minds, Fucked Up, are finally coming back with their sophomore record, The Chemistry Of Common Life, set to hit shelves in October.  It's the follow-up to their epicly loud first full length, the 2-disc Hidden World.  Fucked Up, the five-piece hardcore act from Canada sound like seriously nothing you've heard of before.  Or maybe they sound like everything you have.  It's confusing and loud, abrasive and smart.  Pretty much excellent.  You can pre-order the disc here.

03 Golden Seal
04 Days Of Last
05 Crooked Head
06 No Epiphany

Getting Sassy with...Uh Huh Her

Jul 31, 08

We here around the culture of me were once obsessed with all things relating to Sassy and Dirt magazines.  And while those titles are long gone, the sentiment of how they covered the culture industries has indeed left its mark on writers and culture vultures everywhere.  It is because of that influence that we are proud to present our features post, "Getting Sassy with...", wherein we bring you that much closer to your favorite bands by way of a simple Q&A session that's both painless and informative.  Ha!  Beat that, FOX News!

This time: Uh Huh Her.

Uh Huh Her bear a terribly crystal clear resemblance to everything that is fun and full of spirit about female vocaled indie electronic pop music.  The LA-based duo of Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey have only been an act for a couple of years, but their creative output has already made people sit up and pay close attention.  Creating a style of electro pop you may recognize instantly (not a bad thing), Uh Huh Her coo through songs like "Explode" and "Not A Love Song" (both from their album Common Reaction...out August 19) and make us itch for more.  We sent them off our questionnaire to find out more about traveling the states, Carl Sagan and the somehow-now-ubiquitous cherry chapstick.

Camila Grey

Hometown?
Austin, Texas

Current place of residence?
Los Angeles

“Running Scared” by Roy Orbison

Last book read?
The Varieties of Scientific Experience by Carl Sagan

After the jump, Camila talks more about dreams of farm living and her addiction to shows on Bravo.

The world shall go on!  The saviors of our culture are coming back!  The Hives, those bastions of moral and social order (and musical enlightenment), are coming back to the Western hemisphere, and, more importantly, to our hearts.  They may or may not write the most important songs your brain may ever endure, but we're sure of one thing: they put on the greatest live show we've ever witnessed.  It's earth-shattering and completely dangerous.  To those that like to cross arms, that is.

Sep 07 Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL Circo Voadar
Sep 09 Santiago, CHILE Teatro Caupolican

mp-FREE: new The Streets - "The Escapist"

Jul 30, 08

Six years into his career, four albums completed (as of the dropping of September's Everything Is Borrowed LP), Mike Skinner is still not done chronicling the life and times of a British citizen.  The loves and losses, the heartache and wonder, the drugs and sobering truths, The Streets has always been well on top of this game.  And with this track, "The Escapist" (check the video out), we continue to know why.  Soulful, somber and yet, totally refreshing and clean, "The Escapist" is the perfect trip-home soundtrack, an accompaniment that anyone with headphones on during all of those interludes in life can immediately seize hold of.  It's trademark parable-style that we've come to know and love and almost expect from Skinner, and he doesn't fail to come through.

Photos: I Can Haz Party 2 at Hope Lounge

Jul 29, 08

With the likes of Bad Decision, Kids With Snakes and DJ Holla on the decks, plus some other party's cupcakes, the porch and grills being open and our new lens, we'd have to say it was a quite good night.  We're still figuring out some of the in's and out's of the new colors, but whatever.  They look good, no?
