Brooklyn trio The Jaguar Club are an unsigned, two-EPs-under-the-belt-having, overall nice sounding set of boys who want nothing more than to make their way to the bottom of your heart (and the tip of your tongue). We got an email from the group's drummer, Jeremiah, who told us that in the recording of the debut LP, set to drop sometime in winter, the group took some introspective time to consider their sound. He said, "the other two EPs have a much more post-punk/dance vibe, which we're decidedly moving away from in the hopes of achieving something a little more lush, louder, slower, softer, varied I guess."
And while the herky-jerky, shout at the devil and dance til tomorrow style may have been lost in the process, in listening to the two preview tracks they sent our way from the full length, produced by Kevin McMahon (French Kicks, The Walkmen, Titus Andronicus), there's certainly been a fair amount of success in their hopes. Singer Will Popadic has a pleasantly awkward caterwaul, mixing the ache of Michael Stipe and the pitch variance of David Byrne, and the rhythm section of bassist Yoichiro Fujita and drummer Jeremiah Joyce make us believe that these guys have been playing with one another for a very very long time.
