Emerging: Jane Bang

Aug 15, 08

We totally have a soft spot for female MCs, the embodiment of estrogen in an otherwise way too sausage-filled landscape within the realm of hip hop and urban music (cf. Northern State, Lady Sovereign, Missy Elliot, et al.).  There's just something about a girl grabbing her crotch like a silent eff you to that whole ideal that makes us instantly happy, even though we've been known to objectify a lady or two here and there.  Guilty, sure, but we're trying.  When you have a combination like Jane Bang, a vicious lyricist, a born persona and one of the most abrasive pottymouths we've heard in a while who just so happens to be very forward with her lesbianism, you have to just shut up and listen.  Sharing a drawl and streamy delivery that define the best parts of Lil' Wayne's catalog, Jane Bang jumps right out of her LA-based gates and into what should be her place amongst the most credible and sought after voices in the genre.
