mp-FREE: Delta Spirit - "Trashcan"

Aug 24, 08

This is hope and promise stomping the smile out of apathy.  "Trashcan" is so unabashedly fun and sunny and easygoing, it's hard to tell what decade it really came from.  Is it a track from a long lost tour partner of Norman Greenbaum?  A troupe of balladeers circa Newport 1963?

No, none of those, however good both sound.  Delta Spirit, a ragtag group of San Diegoans, a band of brothers on a journey for journey's sake, seeking out the life of the amble, the quest simply to quest are thoroughly and obviously present tense.  "Trashcan", off the band's debut release Ode To Sunshine (whose reissue comes out Tuesday), is all of these things: a piano-led travelogue, a sonnet of catharsis, a message about messages.
