Cinema: Springsteen pens track for Aronofsky film "The Wrestler"

Sep 04, 08

According to the film's brief, "The Wrestler" is the story of retired professional wrestler, Randy "The Ram" Robinson, making his way through the independent circuit, trying to get back in the game for one final showdown with his former rival.  The film stars Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.  We haven't a clue why Darren Aronofsky, the esteemed director of "Pi" and "Requiem For A Dream" would bother making a film about professional wrestling (though the steaming pile of crap that "The Fountain" was may explain this downward spiral) but for now, we'll give it a break because of the whole Bruce Springsteen thing.  Only problem being, the song is the CLOSING track, so, hooray for staying for the credits, right?  "The Wrestler" is set to close out the Venice Film Festival.
