mp-FREE: Spend ten minutes with LA's Clockwork

Sep 06, 08

This goddamn kid who calls himself Clockwork is only seventeen and he's already made us totally smile with the two remixes we're going to feature down below.  The first, from Cut Copy (yes, everyone and their mother is remixing "Hearts On Fire"), is all handclaps and simple layers of synth and tambourine, understating the flow of the original track and cutting up everything but 2 or 3 lines.  The second, of New Order's "Crystal" (this kid couldn't possibly know anything about that band) is basically the same, so maybe a slight deduction for that, but really, who else is tackling New Order tracks these days?  The break that happens in this track around 1:30 is so sublime, we were seriously caught off-guard.  We believe the children are our future (sorry).  Check out some other work the kid's done recently on his blog.
