News: new solo record from Scott Weiland on the way

Sep 03, 08

Maybe we're the only ones, but it's totally fucking exciting to hear news break that there's going to be a follow-up to 12 Bar Blues, Scott Weiland's first solo effort (1998) that was completed after the Stone Temple Pilots' inner band turmoil led to the break-up (Talk Show was terrible, no?).

We can't tell you how many times we spun that CD after we bought it when it came out, all slobbered to death with Bowie homages and other glam-infused sentiments though still very much pop-oriented (for the time, that is).  It was so layered, you got the feeling that Weiland and producer Daniel Lanois spent hours and hours painstakingly tracking, re-tracking and finessing everything.

Well, anyways, there's now official word of Happy, Weiland's second solo effort, which had shared production credits with Doug Green and some special engineering help from that dude Steve Albini.  Confirmed for the disc are the Y-chromosomed portion of No Doubt (Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young all sat in on sessions) and the titles “Paralysis”, “She’s So Cold”, “Talk About Love”, “Somedays” and “Missing Cleveland”.  Happy will be out November 18, followed by a tour.
