Emerging: Drew Danburry
Oct 23, 08

You are now listening to the wondrous sound of one of the most impassioned people to ever pick up a musical instrument and put it to use. Drew Danburry, a singer-songwriter who's got soul if you need some, grew up in southern California and first made a name for himself doing hilarious, kilter-less gangster rap songs under the moniker White Chocolate (he's still trying to shake that whole thing off, we're sure) complete with instrumental back-up like organs and acoustic guitars. After all of that, Danburry proceeded to get down to business with DIY tours with just a guitar and unending smiles, releasing three records and an EP (his fourth record, This Could Mean Trouble, You Don't Speak for the Club, is set for release next month. All of his work is full of endearing vignettes and somber slices of life, scrunched neatly into a packaging of intensely smart pop.
Danburry is out playing dates as we speak, however he's halted a bit of it by some unfortunate car trouble along the highways of Florida, leading him to send this distress call out: "... our car broke down today and after pushing it a mile up the 75 North in Florida in the humid heat of the afternoon we finally got it to an off ramp and contacted a mechanic who helped us figure out we need an entirely new engine. So we're stuck in Florida for a few days and consequently we probably will be hung up for a few days and out a few thousand dollars. Tour excitement at its finest!"
