Video: Kings Of Leon - "Use Somebody"

Nov 06, 08

What's happened to our boys from the South, the saviors of so-called "southern-sleaze-rock", Kings Of Leon?  The Followill clan have gotten all gussied up in a Metallica-sell-out-shout-inducing garb and haircuts (we'll allow it), but the band has leaned recently towards ditching their south-of-the-Mason-Dixon roots for a more heaven-pulling-down approach, complete with "whoa oh's" a la The Killers and singer Caleb Followill's raspy, Jim Beam-slurred Steve Winwood vocal harmonics.  We've never been fully behind this band (even though we've printed that we were, at one point, "looking forward to this album") and now we're totally fine leaving them alone, to wallow in whatever kind of heartache a major-label band with legions of European fans and no hope for matched success here in the US could possibly have.  Here's looking at a long career of records that won't put a dent in anything but bigwig pockets.
