Video: The Alchemist - "Lose Your Life"

Featuring Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss and Pusha T (of Clipse), this track from The Alchemist (off of the most recent The Cookbook EP) instantly made us think of that whole era in the 90s when Russell Simmons decided that the next great subgenre of hip hop would be what he called "horrorcore" (cf. Gravediggaz, The Flatlinerz, et al.). The video for the song does exactly what we hoped it would do. Creating a healthy marriage of cartoon gore and eery visuals, we kept thinking we were watching a pilot episode of a hip hop version of "Scooby Doo", filtered through the lens of direction from So-Me and using "Beavis and Butt-head" as it's only barometer. With all of the talent that was pooled into this track, we'd hoped for better results, but we're still really happy that the clip isn't the same old schlock we've come to expect in hip hop videos these days.
