Download: Death To The Throne - "New M.I.A Song (DJ Forefit remix)"

Feb 28, 09

At the beginning of this month, we brought you the exclusive premiere of a hodgepodge cut-and-paste track from one of the most promising acts of 2009 (our vote at least), Death To The Throne, with his "New M.I.A Song".  And while that set our feet off right away, we just got an email from our friend DJ Forefit (of Kanye West "Paranoid" fame) with a completely new re-treatment of the song, with so much more wobble for your dollar that you won't believe the 100% hypeworthy result.

Photos: Girls & Boys on February 20

Feb 28, 09

Okay, so it's totally been a week since this party happened and we've already started to edit the photos from the Girls & Boys party that happened last night, but here's the scoop on Felix Da Housecat's guest spot.  It was housey, deep, dark, smoky and pretty much really really rad.  Lots of kids came out to Webster Hall and danced ragged through the night and for that, of course we say thanks.

News: The Submarines issue remix EPs

Feb 28, 09

The two-disc set from The Submarines called Honeysuckle Remixes (part one came out on February 17 and the second will see release on March 10) features remixes from the likes of Ra Ra Riot, AmpLive and Wallpaper., among others.  The effort, which comes right in the middle of the duo's co-headlining tour with The Morning Benders, is a perfect accompaniment to one of our favorite indie pop records of the last year or so.  They're available on iTunes or on any of the band's remaining dates, so, you know, get on that.

Download: New tracks and remixes from the boys in LAZRtag

Feb 27, 09

Three new original tracks get re-imagined by a bunch of LAZRtag's friends and an all-new remix by the California boys, here's the best way possible to start your weekend.  The first two is a tete-a-tete with Dan Sena, where LAZRtag remix Sena and then Sena returns the favor.  Rad.  The other two, remixes of LAZRtag's original stompers "Work Is Play" from Barletta and "Detonate" from DMNDAYS.  Really too much said by us already, just grab the tracks, turn them up as loud as you can on your Radio Rahim boomboxes and get the fuck up.

Feb 27, 09

Yeah yeah.  We're so goddamn late this week with photos from last weekend, but whatever.  We haven't been feeling 100% and our site was down (boo) for like three days-ish.  Anyways, the dudes from Finger On The Pulse continue to impress with their pull, as last Friday saw the US debut date for Barcelona-based thrasher (not to mention a really rad dude) Sidechains.  We had to run out like midway through his set to catch Felix Da Housecat at Webster Hall, but we caught the full set of our Brooklyn buds The American Dream Team, so, six in one hand, right?

News: Toro y Moi drops new EP of remixes Monday

Feb 27, 09

Full disclosure: we still sort of have no idea who Toro y Moi is.  That's totally okay though, because sometimes you get gems where you should just listen to things, rather than tearing into the context or the creator.  With regard to the Left Alone At Night EP, that gem comes in the form of an epic, ridiculously catchy, yet remarkably simple remix from one Pink Skull.  So, minus all the tomfoolery, here's the track.  Make sure you're good little boys and girls on Monday by picking up the EP.  Drop The Lime and Dave Allison also contribute remixes.

Download: Prince - "Controversy (Johnny Bootleg's Nude Mood Update)"

Feb 27, 09

Okay, guys, you have to understand something.  Everyone in the known world has their own reason for loving Prince songs.  You know you do and we know we do.  So when we got an email from our dear friend and DJ Gavin Royce about a new treatment he and his friend Arvin did of the track "Controversy", it sort of called into question what the reason is.  It didn't make us question whether or not we love Prince songs, but the remix itself is so dense and disco, where the original is a slow-burning, sexed-up jam, we had to evaluate if that reason stayed the same.  Now, bear in mind that we've been waiting for what feels like eons for Gavin to send us tracks (dude's promised us pretty much every time we seen him).  And this track delivers.  And even though he may be getting a message from us soon about how the moniker "Johnny Bootleg" may not be the best-fitting glass slipper, we are totally on the level with him about why he chose to re-touch this song.  Gavin told us, "We set out to do a party track and not reinvent the wheel.  We just put an old school house kick loop behind the track and got a little fancy with the arrangement.  I always loved the chorus of the original but it never seemed to be long enough for me so I did a really long chorus section."

Video: Drew Danburry - "Artex Died In Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico"

Feb 26, 09

A few weeks ago, Drew Danburry assured us that we'd be able to feast our eyes on a new clip for this song he was still putting the raspy finishing touches on, "Artex Died In Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico".  And now it is so.  We'd be remiss to spoil it for you guys, but let's just say that the video itself is an homage to our favorite movie of all time.  Oh yeah, and to sweeten the prize, Danburry also sent us a collaboration he did with Hillery Hathaway, which is actually a cover of Timbaland's "The Way I Are" switched up to be "The Way Drew Drew".  Weird?  Yes.  Epic?  You bet.

Download: Keane - "Perfect Symmetry (Innerpartysystem remix)"

Feb 26, 09

To be frank y'all, we're not really fans of either Keane's melodramatic-piano-pop or Innerpartysystem's nouveau-My Favorite-synth-pop-punk formulas.  They just always seemed geared for ears other than ours.  But when you combine the two, as in this remix of "Perfect Symmetry" that Innerpartysystem (above) was commissioned to do for Keane prior to their South American dates, the sum of the parts greatly floods the seesaw in one direction.  We don't know how it happened, but we cannot stop listening to this song.  It's a stuttery, sugar-coated wallop to the skull in six-and-a-half minutes of builds, crashes, "whoa oh"s, cut-and-paste vocals and hypnotic rhythms.
