Emerging: Perhapsy

Mar 29, 09

Dense and delicate songs that seem to meander until their end, Ann Arbor-born by way of Mansfield, Ohio Derek Barber aka Perhapsy pours layers upon layers of instruments (from the token guitar, bass and drums, to glockenspiel, saxophone, accordions and keys) in his debut effort, a mostly-instrumental experiment in somberness and hope.  If you're into whirlwind soundscapes and can remember how much you loved American Football's only record, Perhapsy will be your golden ticket.  We were instantly digging through our vinyl so we could play "The Summer Ends" right after we listened to Perhapsy's disc, completely remembering how easy it is to fall in love with cardigan music.
