Download: Woodhands - "I Kissed A Girl (Katy Perry cover)"

May 01, 09

Of course it had to happen. The most remixed song (our thoughts, not actually confirmed) of 2008 and the early part of this year, Katy Perry's massive, controversial and altogether-too-much-fun single "I Kissed A Girl" has finally gotten itself a proper cover. Oh sure, may a YouTube user has done it and it's also been a song that a bunch of bands have covered in a live setting--albeit with a sense of humor. But now, the boys in Toronto's Woodhands take this track and throw it through their own filter, and it jumps out of its own teenage-girl-curiosity skin and into the realm of the whistle-blowing, synth-slinging, hardcore chorus-shouting, muted drumming environs. The track leaves behind the cooey, doe-eyed faux innocence of the original and becomes a pretty okay standalone track from the same guys who did a rad rendition of Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue" a while ago. Plus, the hypnotic roboticism of the bridge is infatuating. Woodhands play the Loose Nukes party on May 16 at The Delancey.
