Celebrating its 46-year existence as the premier malt liquor that just so happens to be almost synonymous with one Billy Dee Williams, last night saw the "start of a new era" for Colt 45 as Brookyn's Southpaw venue was taken over by the brand. They were handing out freebies of the new 7oz. versions of the drink as well as the downstairs VIP area was littered with hors d'oeuvres, watermelon, chicken wings, pizza and the like. Both levels featured DJ sets--upstairs the one and only Nick Catchdubs was digging through his library for some of the most genre-breaking cuts we could've imagined the Fools Gold king to be spinning (ahem, Luscious Jackson's "Seeing Eye")--as well as live performances from metal screechers Wizardry, girl-group/Wall of Sound excellence of Golden Triangle and the anthemic soul/pop/disco/dance/rock formatting of one of our recent faves, The Phenomenal Handclap Band.
