Emerging: Phantom

Jul 17, 09

Cinematic, wrenching, noirish and macabre, the music of rock trio Phantom lives up to its namesake, meshing swells and walls of Lynchian echoes with the sentient nature of bad men and even badder women. The UK melodramatic, mournful band of Elsie Martins reverbed guitars and haunting banshee vocals, Johnny Martin's deeply affected bass and Lyndsay Evans' dual duties of marching drums and gloomy organ, inspire the blackest and bleakest of environs. The songs are viscerally stunning and atypical shoegaze/black surf rock with swallow-you-up progressions and effects. The forthcoming single, "Great Pretender", isn't out until September 28.
