Maybe the best cover we've ever heard in our lives, this haunting, lo-fi folk song by Illinois's William Fitzsimmons (who just so happens to have an EP of live tunes out now) is one of the best reasons to stay up pressing repeat over and over again. It really reflects the idea of the jilted, broken protagonist that the 808s & Heartbreak song could only do in lyric and tone, and unfortunately, not in execution. Chill-inspiring guitar plucks and piano lines are all that accompany Fitzsimmons's fading vocals (and okay, maybe that rad-shit beard, too), and that's all that's really needed to drive the point of the song home. Where Max Justus redefined the work of West's latest record, William Fitzsimmons reinvigorates its essence.
