Photos: Shiragirl's video release party on September 24

One of our favorite girl-punk bands these days, New York City's own Shiragirl, released their newest single, the high school anthem for all sorts of bored-to-tears kids the world over "Sick Day", this past Thursday night and they celebrated the track's release (alongside the video clip) in high style. How high, you say? Well, how about taking a 50-or-so foot yacht out on New York harbor, show the video to friends and acquaintances and then rock a half-dozen-song set on the ship's deck? That high enough for you guys? The girls bring the fire that the usual boys' club of punk rock ethos usually relegates but with the panache and juicy energy that only a "girls up front" attitude and never-backing-down-or-turning-down-a-moment-to-shine optimism to a game that's largely become a genre filled with glammed up guys with funny hair and even funnier "how'd they even get signed?" talent. Thanks to the DJ, Sheena Beaston and Ruthie from Famous Friends for making an epic night even more epic--with LOLs.
