Photos: The Sounds at Roseland Ballroom on September 17

Thursday night we ran out to the esteemed Roseland Ballroom to catch the monstrous tour stop from Sweden's most anthemic pop kids The Sounds who were out supporting their latest record, Crossing The Rubicon. They were supported by this group called Foxy Shazam, who you'll never see mentioned on this Web site, mainly due to their underwhelming "performance" of what we came to the conclustion--through consultations with Sheena Beaston, among others--to be nothing more than a failed battle of the bands set where the band members decided to tell each other to "go for it" though none specified what that "it" is. Ugh. But of course The Sounds never disappoint and when we realized that they'd be playing over twenty songs and composing a set that neared the ninety-minute-mark, we were nothing if not agape. They were fun, commanding, blistering, amazing, humble and sweat-inducing. The crowd was packed and kids jumped and shouted along throughout. After the show, we headed out with the Richmond team (Viking, CJ Milli, The Grenade) and Subdrive kids Terror Dactel and Galbis to catch a DJ set from Lykke Li at LPR for a Nudie Jeans fashion week party that found the chanteuse slinging all sorts of soul classics and obscurities for the sardined crowd.
