CONTESTS: Win a Divided By Night prize pack from The Crystal Method

Jul 07, 09

It's amazing to us the fact that there have literally only been four studio albums from Ken and Scott aka The Crystal Method, a duo that have had nothing short of a formidable impact on electronic music since they first began the project back in 1993. Divided By Night was released in May of this year and featured a variety of guest's help, including Peter Hook (of New Order), Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, Matisyahu, LMFAO, Emily Haines and more. To coincide with a summer, eleven-date tour for the duo, we're running a contest. One winner selected by us will receive a prize pack, which consists of: Divided By Night on vinyl, a special edition TCM Dakine District Street bag and a TCM tote bag. If you want in on the prize pack, email us (remember to put "The Crystal Method prize pack" in the subject line) or put "yo @thecultureofme, how about The Crystal Method prize pack?" into your Twitter update and we'll pick the winner at the beginning of next week.

CONTESTS: Win tickets to see Esser play live at the iTunes Festival

Jul 06, 09

July 23 will see Esser playing with Graham Coxon at London’s Roundhouse venue for a night of the iTunes Festival. The thing about the gig, though, is that tickets for the festival shows are not available for purchase. So Esser and company have decided to run a little contest. They’ve got their hands on 60 pairs (120 tickets) to give away to lucky winners over the next two weeks. All you’d have to do to win is answer a simple question, get picked by the band and then make your way over to the gig. Here’s the details: email esser@live.com with the answer to the following question (maybe one of the easiest trivia queries ever): which legendary Britpop band does Graham Coxon play guitar for? Make sure you put "iTunes festival" in the title of the email and include your name, daytime phone (so they can let you know if you win) and age. Entries must be in by July 19.

CONTESTS: Win free tickets to Freeland at Webster Hall

Jun 30, 09

If you haven't heard Cope, the new disc from Freeland (out in stores now), you're a sad sad soul in our book. But that can all change as you've got the chance to listen in full to a stream right here. Oh, and if you prefer to hear the disc as your very own, just pick it up by purchase online at http://www.freeland.fm/order-cope.asp. But if you happen to be in New York City for the holiday weekend (and more specifically for Friday night), you can catch the vibes yourself as Adam and the gang are appearing to DJ what we can only assume to be a massive set at the weekly Girls & Boys party. What's that, you want us to sweeten the pot? Well, how about we throw in a free pair of tickets for you a lucky guest? Sure thing. Just email us or put "yo @thecultureofme, how about those Freeland tickets?" into your Twitter update and we'll pick the lucky recipient tomorrow. Honestly, these guys are fucking rad.

CONTESTS: Insound & THE CULTURE OF ME Soundscreen Design summer 09 t-shirt

May 29, 09

So excited to finally be talking about this! We've been wanting an opportunity to work alongside the guys at Insound for forever (we even applied for a job there a really really long time ago). It's finally here you guys, because Soundscreen Design has curated and developed an exclusive, seasonal, limited edition line of t-shirts, hoodies and tote bags, featuring original designs from three studios for nine prominent indie-rock artists. Insound has teamed up with us, THE CULTURE OF ME, and eight other rad-as-fuck web sites to run a contest where one lucky winner will get his/her hands on the design/band choice that particular web site has cherry-picked.

We, of course, picked Fucked Up and their amazing t-shirt designed by Seripop. Seripop also designed stuff for Deerhoof and Handsome Furs, and the other two studios, Hand Held Heart (Gang Gang Dance, Liars, No Age) and The Bird Machine (Battles, The National, Pelican) both make up the remainder of the Soundscreen line.

All you have to do to get your prize is enter on the contest page here and wait until next Friday, June 5. We'll announce that one lucky winner then.

About the line:
Driven by the desire for impeccably designed band merchandise produced in an eco-friendly manner on high quality garments, Soundscreen Design approached 3 highly regarded design studios and asked what musical artists they are inspired to design for. Simply put, they’re putting the art back into band merchandise.

CONTESTS: Trouble Andrew playing Terminal 5 with Santigold next month

May 26, 09

Trouble Andrew aka Trevor Andrew aka Santigold's bf (aren't they adorable together?) has been out on the road with his beloved as of late, and we've got your entry New York City into their upcoming show June 9 at Terminal 5. All you have to do is send your friends an email with "Trouble Trouble" in the subject line and we'll pick the lucky winner, who'll receive a pair of freebie tickets. But be forewarned: tardiness will not be tolerated!! If you're late to the party--you show up after Trouble's already begun his set--you're not getting in. Just had to make sure that was in the fine Helvetica print. The grimey white boy's sometimes alternative, sometimes rap self-titled debut record is out now.

CONTESTS: Great Northern at Bell House next Friday

Apr 24, 09

If you're into haunting, morose and pretty epicly amazing arrangements and cooey, shoegaze vocals, Great Northern's new sophomore disc, Remind Me Where The Light Is (out April 28), should be in your possession post-haste. So, too, then, should a pair of tickets to see the indie pop duo's show next Friday, May 1, at Bell House in Brooklyn. Simple arithmetic really. Also appearing on the bill are The Dears and Eulogies, so it's really not too hard to figure out reasons to enter this contest. Just email us and we'll pick a winner before the end of next week. And don't you dare forget to pick up their new record next week.

CONTESTS: "Your Heart Feels" remix contest from Thieves Like Us

Apr 06, 09

Okay, so not to kill the vibe already, but we have no idea what you will win if you do a really really rad remix of Thieves Like Us' track "Your Heart Feels", from Play Music.  There's no details at all about it, but that shouldn't stop you bedroom produces from attacking this for the kill.  We love the original track's charging drums and the synth line is just killer, so we'd obvs. like to see each remix really play with that and it's relation to the speak-sing vocals.  We could totally imagine the coda being used to death or not at all, depending on your style of producing.  But a line like "See you in the club/ See you in the crowd" is definitely what we'd want to hear over and over.  Get the stems and the info about how to submit here.
