Live: Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) returns; finalizes line-up

Jul 10, 09

The all-day juggernaut now in its second annual volume, BEMF, is back with a line-up that scares the ever-loving-existence out of us, some rad toss-ins to sweeten everyone's minds and a very secretive ploy. Happening this year at The Old American Can Factory, BEMF is helmed once again by Famous Friends, the golden ticket-possessing trio of DJs and promoters that brought you the nine-hour inaugural event last year. But this, well, it's 33% longer. Yup, 4pm until 4am. And it's got two stages, doubling last year. And two hours of PBR open bar (4pm - 6pm). We're sort of losing our minds over the list of acts they've been able to secure, like (tip of the proverbial iceberg here) The Juan Maclean, Adventure, Viking, NROTB and Awesome New Republic, but we don't think anyone in their right mindset could argue that this isn't the best line-up of independent music acts of the summer.

About that secret? Famous Friends will be announcing a very special surprise guest headliner via twitter on the day of the show. Follow them on Twitter to receive the latest news in advance. Advance tickets are $25 and can be purchased now. RJD2 will not be performing as previously announced.

Full line-up after the jump.

Live: The Get Up Kids announce a full fall tour

Jul 08, 09

Reuniting last November for a show at Record Bar in Kansas City and then following that with terrifically sold out shows in New York, LA and San Francisco, The Get Up Kids (110% one of our favorite bands ever) have just announced a full fall line-up of tour dates, all of which are going up for sale tomorrow. And right before the tour, on September 8, the band will mark the 10-year anniversary of their amazing LP, Something To Write Home About, with a reissue CD/DVD version of the album. The DVD portion of the package features the full live performance the guys played in March of this year in the Lawrence, KS venue Liberty Hall.

Full tour dates after the jump.

Download: Univox - "I'm A Lying Fuck" + tour dates

Jun 25, 09

Philly four-piece Univox melt the sounds of the sixties and seventies northern Midwest (revolution, awareness, angst) into a barrel of fiery punk/indie pop that's arresting and endearing--and they're the newest signees to the once cassette-only punk label ROIR who are releasing their Lying Fuck 7" on August 18. If you're fans of the brand of technicolor danger rock of groups like the wild brother hymns of Black Lips or JEFF The Brotherhood, you'll feel at home with these guys for sure. They make pop songs for pop fans, not pop songs for teen girls or too-emotional boys. Balls to that. The boys are heading out on a few dates next month too.

Dates:

Jul 03 Nashville, TN The End
Jul 12 Baltimore, MD TBA
Jul 13 Philadelphia, PA The Khyber
Jul 16 Detroit, MI PJ’s Lager House
Jul 17 Chicago, IL Cal’s Bar
Jul 18 Chicago, IL House Party! (TBD)

La Roux's principal talent Elly Jackson and the man behind the beats and arrangements, Ben Langmaid, are coming back to the states and Canada riding their white horses for another two weeks of shows coming up at the end of next month. Following La Roux's record-selling single this year in the native UK, "In For The Kill" and the impending hurrah coming their way from their debut record (set for an October release at this point), this should be a really rad set of shows for a North American proving ground for one of the year's most promising acts. Pop music for 2009 at its best.
