News: Help Black Dominoes DJ at Lollapalooza + new remix

Jul 14, 09

Atlanta's own Black Dominoes--a talent we haven't heard much from lately after a barrage of stuff in the past--is currently on the hunt for winning a DJ spot at this year's Lollapalooza (alongside MSTRKRFT, A-trak and more), taking place August 7-9 in Chicago. Dell has been doing this contest for remixers called "Last Band Standing" and the dude's made it to the final 50 for voting and selection. Up for grabs are the aforementioned spot at Lolla, a new computer, $1,000 and a version of Ableton Live 8. You can go and listen/vote for Black Dominoes here to help his cause.

After last November's release of the EP Bravado, Miami Horror is back with some banging remixes of each of the effort's tracks. Working with the likes of Treasure Fingers, Fred Falke, Cassian and more, we're super amped for whatever is coming our way. We know that he's been working on new stuff with Alan Palomo (VEGA, Neon Indian) and for that, we're even more stoked. Here now is the first teaser of the remixes of Bravado, "Don't Be On With Her" remixed by disco royalty, Treasure Fingers. And if you haven't already, get your hands on a copy of the Bravado EP now.

Tracklist:

01 Don't Be On With Her
02 Summerfest '86
03 Make You Mine
04 Bellevue

News: Rikers finally release Easter Eyes EP

Jul 08, 09

Shoegazy chamber pop from Toronto, Rikers are a band we featured here a way long time ago, and they're finally releasing the long-awaited EP, Easter Eyes, for free downloading off of their web site. The five-track EP--the title track of which we've already offered up here--easily showcases the producer's hands who helped to carve the sound, namely The Walkmen's engineer Kevin McMahon. Through soaring guitars and ringing arrangements, the band's everything-front-and-center approach to their songs really shines through with immediacy.

Tracklist:

01 Ringleader
02 Sealegs
03 Ten Thousand Miles
04 Anywhere Else
05 Easter Eyes

News: The Cribs unveil first teaser track from Ignore The Ignorant

Jul 07, 09

The Cribs (Mark II complete with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr) will be finally releasing their fourth studio album on September 7 via Wichita Recordings. Ignore The Ignorant will be available on limited edition CD/DVD, CD, download and vinyl along with other surprises. Before the fall release date though, the band will drop the single “Cheat On Me” a week earlier on August 30. But even before all of that, the boys are letting loose today with the first sneak-peak at the disc, the lead-off track “We Were Aborted” which anyone can download by signing up for their fan newsletter. The song itself has a much more southern California 90s feel to it--albeit with Wakefield, UK accents--sounding nearly like a gem from some Punk-O-Rama compilation.

Tracklist:

01 We Were Aborted
02 Cheat On Me
03 We Share The Same Skies
04 City Of Bugs
05 Hari Kari
06 Last Years Snow
07 Emasculate Me
08 Ignore The Ignorant
09 Save Your Secrets
10 Nothing
11 Victim Of Mass Production
12 Stick To Yr Guns

News: Mannequin Men do weekly mixtape series

Jul 06, 09

Chicago punk rock droogs Mannequin Men have embarked on a mission to release a themed mixtape every week until either they run out of concepts or run out of patience with the whole goddamn thing (we're betting on the former, if only because it just seems the right thing to do). The first mixtape's theme is "songs about other musicians" and coming up next week is a compilation of "songs with accidentally filthy lyrics". They've been sitting on a mastered version of a new record, Lose Your Illusion Too, for the better part of the year now, and with that finally seeing release this week, it's going to make for a really terrific month for these dudes.

Tracklist for Mannequin Men's mixtape of "songs about other musicians":

01 The Replacements - Alex Chilton
02 Mahjongg - Free Groove Rider
03 Kathleen Hanna - I Wish I Was Him (Evan Dando)
04 Pavement - Unseen Power Of The Picket Fence (R.E.M.)
05 Television Personalities - I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives
06 Joan Of Arc - This Life Cumulative (Fiona Apple)
07 50 Kaitenz - Thank You For Ramones
08 David Bowie - Song For Bob Dylan
09 The Muslims - Call It A Day (The Killers, Liars, OK Go)
10 Leonard Cohen - Chelsea Hotel No. 2 (Janis Joplin)
11 The-Dream - Kelly's 12 Play (R. Kelly)
12 Sonic Youth - Teen Age Riot (J. Mascis)

News: Sinkane's third album is out this week

Jul 06, 09

A seven-track wash of drones, guitars, drums, ambience, free jazz, experimentation, reverb and brilliance, the third, self-titled disc from Sinkane (drummer for the likes of Caribou, Born Ruffians and Of Montreal) is the perfect accompaniment to a mind that's as equally consumed by emotion and steadiness. There are mellow moments and explosive meters, all encompassing a landscape filled with psychedelics and swirling moments, all laced up with harmonies you'll only find here. Sinkane is full of swells and littered with promise.

News: Neon Indian announce the release of Psychic Chasms

Jul 02, 09

Alan Palomo is putting the rest of us all to shame with his work ethic. We mean, first, dude makes one of the best EPs of the year thus far with his Texas-bred dreamwave act VEGA. Then he leaks bits and pieces of information over the past few months about a completely separate project under the moniker Neon Indian--with the help of a "visual artist" called Alicia Scardetta. And now he puts the cherry on top with the newsbreak of the debut full length from Neon Indian, the Lefse Records-released Psychic Chasms. One listen to the newest track to be leaked from the record, "Terminally Chill" ("Deadbeat Summer" saw its way to the blogosphere in April), will seep into your soul, oozing with effects and lazy, meandering, nice dream, tripped out high notes and bouncy lows.

Tracklist:

01 (AM)
02 Deadbeat Summer
03 Laughing Gas
04 Terminally Chill
05 (If I Knew, I'd Tell You)
06 6669 (I Don't Know If You Know)
07 Should Have Taken Acid With You
08 Mind, Drips
09 Psychic Chasms
10 Local Joke
11 Ephemeral Artery
12 7000 (reprise)
