Photos: Tribeca Grand Saturdays on July 11

We've had the last few weeks off from holding down the photo fort at the Tribeca Grand Saturdays party from the gents over at GBH, but there wasn't a way imaginable for us to think of missing this past one. With guest appearances from The Golden Filter (who never disappoint) and a DJ set from Nomi of Hercules & Love Affair, not to mention sponsorship from Patron to keep the juices flowing, the cards were stacked. And everyone delivered. The weather was crap for a good chunk of the night, but the place was capital-p packed throughout the evening, with killer cuts and awesome crowds. The Golden Filter played about a half-dozen songs and electrified the audience amid a battle with the sound system and we left happy, sweaty and hungry for more when it was all over.

Classixx were in town to rock the house alongside Kitsune signee Acid Girls for this week's Friday night fest at Webster Hall, Girls & Boys, and the floor was shaking. It was a rad time for sure and we had just gotten ourselves a new camera body, so apologies if the photos are a little bit different (you'll notice a lot more red tints in the flesh tones, so we're still experimenting). We haven't been really out in a bit so catching up with the kids was really great, albeit with tons of new shit going on in everyone's lives. Whatever, it was still a party worth partying at, so there you go.

With two-hour sets from both Peter Hook (the bass player of both Joy Division and New Order) and Adam Freeland, this past week's Girls & Boys party at Webster Hall was really really a fun experience. Never mind the fact that a large portion of the crowd was basically bused in from the closed-for-a-few-nights Pacha--not really a long story there, but one we feel more comfortable not going on about, just listening to Peter Hook drop a New Order classic, "Bizarre Love Triangle", and then having that mix into the remix of Gorillaz's "Dare" was enough for us to be settled for the night. Not to mention the blistering club-ready set from Freeland, who just so happens to be that good of a DJ first, then a great musician second.

Okay, so we're not going to say much about part one of this past Friday night, because, well, it neither needs nor warrants further talk. The second part, though, at the Girls & Boys party at Webster Hall, does. With a special, totally surprise guest DJ set from Ed Banger head Pedro Winter aka Busy P, announced performances from Adam Tensta, Hot Pink Delorean and the owners of the present number one dance track in the UK right now, Australia-based trio Sneaky Sound System, the party was in full rage when we got there so we hung out for the remainder of the night, catching the SSS set that was maybe the live highlight of the summer for us. We're full-on about to speak only the high praises of this group's brand of vocal electro dance pop and if you were there on Friday, you'd be doing the same thing.

Another ace time out on the Half Moon Cruise last night, as the boys from Rude NY and their much more-than-care bear threw another rager out on the open waters of the East River, this time at night. With the help of DJ sets from themselves, Prince Terrence (HEARTSREVOLUTION), Mattie Safer (The Rapture) and Philly-based Flufftronix, the boat was rocking, the booze was flowing and the party favors were more than abundant. It was way dark, way dancey and way fun.

As the official afterparty for The Juan Maclean show that was happening at Webster Hall on the early side, this weekend's Tribeca Grand Saturday featured DJ sets from Juan himself and Space Cowboy (who apparently serves as the record jockey for Lady GaGa) The Glitter Kids, residents Alex English and Danzie, us catching up with our dear friend after a long time and maybe the most nom-nom-worthy cookies we've ever sunk our teeth into. Seriously, "True Blood" vamps, you've got nothing on us when it comes to baked good with cookie dough at Ghirardelli chocolate.

Friday night saw something special, and by that we're talking about the bringing-down-the-house live performances of Oakland's Wallpaper. and Toronto's Thunderheist at the monthly Yikes! party, courtesy of your friends at Finger On The Pulse. Darin and Greg also DJed and they were joined on the decks by Bad Decision DJ Gavin Royce and Toronto-native tech house Mansion. It was wild all night and we had a terrific time and got seriously destroyed by both live bands. And we weren't alone.

Photos: Drums Of Death at Music Hall of Williamsburg on June 19

Jun 20, 09

The whole day yesterday it was sort of off and on whether or not we'd be getting in on the live show make-up date from Scottish electro voodoo beat-master Drums Of Death and Peaches at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. But when we got the text and phone call very close to showtime to go and meet DOD and shoot a few stills with him backstage before his set, we hopped the fuck there--fast. We had had a few questions prepped for him in the event of an interview, but we ditched it all when it was so close to set time, so we shot like 5 photos with him (2 of which are here) and then stayed to watch him rock his set live. He pogoed all over the stage and threw his body at the crowd, sweating and writhing. Yes, he destroyed. And when DOD launched into a cover of "Hear Me" by Drop The Lime (he's done a remix, of course), we just about died.

Photos: Bacardi B-LIVE at M:2 on June 17

Featuring a line-up that seriously rivals the likes of any flyer we've seen in a long time, last night's Bacardi B-LIVE event at M:2 (formerly Mansion, Ministry of Sound and, er, Crobar) was one of the largest, most rambunctous, hilarious and fun nights we've had in a while, while also being one of the more frustrating. But way less about the latter will be discussed than the former, because, well, if you read our Twitter feed, you've seen/felt us bitch enough as it is.

With killer DJ sets (the ones we caught anyways, sorry Patrick aka The Captain) from Drop The Lime (above right), Auto Erotique, DJ Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak and DJ AM and a special guest performance from Matt & Kim (they of the commercial fame for those of you more uninformed), we had a hard time not having fun with our friends and thousands of other people in attendance and raged hard and raged long. And now we're too tired to go on about it all.

Photos: Esser live at Le Royale on June 15

Jun 16, 09

For his first-ever New York City date, Ben Esser and his boys that make up the Essex, UK-based hodgepodge pop group Esser played an intimate show with about 100 people in attendance at the Greenwich village spot Le Royale. Playing a later-than-expected set (you should have heard the conversations we were all having about what the hell set time was going to be/was after soundcheck) that was comprised of only five songs, Esser didn't fail to impress anyone in attendance with his witty songs, cheeky attitude and overall amount of talent. Sure, it was a short set, but success was made in that all appetites were whetted for the August 11 release of Esser's debut, Braveface. Also, the live transition from the "A Milli" sample (stretched and bent as much as possible) into "Headlock" was intense. The band are off to play Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the coming days.
