Stream: BSBTRGCLUB unleash a new album, Leopard Hexagone

Nov 14, 09

More resigned to be glitchy, near-8-bit headphone fare than much of their previous bullet points on their CV's, the boys in Canadian banger rave crew BSBTRGDCLUB hit us over the head with this simple, sample-heavy thundering heap of bass and drums, "Freezeman", from their new album Leopard Hexagone, which you can stream in full on their MySpace page. We chose this track to feature basically because it's built upon a full-on Nintendo game system blip fest and the sample of the excited chimpanzee (angry, happy, anxious, confused, whatever the emotion is) just got us over the edge. Bravo.

Stream: Heads We Dance release double-A-side single in December

Oct 26, 09

"Take My Picture" is the newest single to drop from London, UK indie dance outfit Heads We Dance. It's 80s synth pop progressions and yearning and soaring arena rock breaks. The track, backed with a dirty disco pop number called "After Dark", will be released on December 14 on Gash Digital. The double-A-side single comes complete with remixes by B-Xentric, Justin Faust, Coin Operated Boy and more. Both tracks from the new release are streaming now on the band's MySpace page.

Stream: How I Became The Bomb's new record Deadly Art

Oct 14, 09

We've talked up the Rome, Georgia dancepunk band How I Became The Bomb once before and in that column, we called them "emerging". Now, you'll get to hear why as the guys have just put up their entire new release, the LP Deadly Art, on their MySpace page for streaming. They remind us very very much of Ima Robot with less spastic tendencies and Hot Hot Heat's Steve Bays in delivery and tone, yet they truly owe little to these two acts and rather seek to explore the corners of dance pop tunes that still encompass both pop and dance, not just one or the other while sonically striving for heights far beyond that of a club or arena ceiling. It's electropop with enough pep and yearning and emotional charge to make even the most dance-aimed kids enjoy the content, not just the pace. Deadly Art is available digitally now.

Stream: Bad Religion - "21st Century Digital Boy (Leg Lifters remix)"

Jul 05, 09

Consistently defining, trashing and redefining the happy go-between for rock music and endless creativity, Justin Pearson and Nathan Joyner (two-thirds of All Leather, not to mention countless others) are Leg Lifters, a project based on continuing that quest, but in the vein of remixing other songs rather than leafing through their own playbooks. The boys have just wrapped up a remix of Bad Religion's seminal "21st Century Digital Boy", turning the California straight-ahead aggro-punk godfathers' anthem into a full-on Locust affair, complete with digital hiccups, slayed vocals and terrifying production. Check out the tune on the boys' MySpace page.

Stream: Teh Interweb Kidz go "Ghettoblastin'"

Jun 22, 09

The Modesto, CA-based cooler kids duo of Teh Interweb Kidz are back with another original track this week, a horror-film synths and clap-trap drum song called "Ghettoblastin'", which you can hear right now by going to their MySpace page. If you like vocal chop-ups and step-step-step bangers, something tells us that you'll not have any problems with this one. We know we don't.

Stream: Mega Wand - "Hang Loose"

Jun 02, 09

"Hang Loose", the newest track to come from the camp of Mega Wand, the girl/girl 8bit electro duo (though, from the above picture, we're asking who that dude is) from California we've talked about a few times here, is what we can only imagine to be the softer edge of the knife, with swirls and dreamy, Cocteau Twins-esque over-washes of sounds and consistent white--and not so white--noise filtered all in. These days, it's really great to see a young group of ruffians who display a range of sonics rather than a one-note act (cf. not naming names) in a particular genre.

Stream: Fischerspooner - "We Are Electric (Hot Chip remix)"

May 05, 09

Bringing together two acts that make us instantly swoon at the sound of their names and crashing the party with a rad-as-fuck remix, Hot Chip sink their teeth into Fischerspooner's "We Are Electric", creating a wash of drums and percussion, a wealth of instruments that seem to have been recorded in a cage and tremendous bass. It's an all-instrumental, over-eight-minute rave-up that only two acts like these can create.

Stream: Miike Snow posts two more tracks from their debut

Mar 28, 09

The first disc from Stockholm's sugariest treats, Miike Snow, isn't due out until June (via Downtown Records), but that wouldn't stop the mysterious Scandinavian boys from posting some new tracks set to be on it for stream on their MySpace page.  Go there and enjoy the piano bliss of "Sylvia" and the plaintive, relaxed indie pop of "Song For No One" now.
