Video: Screaming Females - "Bell (live on "It's On With Alexa Chung")

Aug 26, 09

Born from the pedigreed punk rock community of New Brunswick, New Jersey, the ridiculously amped up, highly addictive, energetic act known as Screaming Females stopped by the MTV show "It's On With Alexa Chung" to play their anthemic, guitar-bass-drums-that's-all-we-need-ever "Bell" live. What you get is barely-over-two-minutes of raw caterwauling and ferocious electrics. And watching the video may actually cause inadvertent fist fights, so watch out, you hear? It's fuzzy, bloody and fucking fun. The band have two local dates this week and one next month, NYC, so get there, get into a fight and get rad.

Live:

Aug 29 Brooklyn, NY The Yard
Sep 01 New York, NY Mercury Lounge
Sep 23 Hoboken, NJ Maxwell's

It's only three days away, but coming August 15 at 9pm EST, the kids over at Fuse are set to air "Fuse Fest: The Best of Lollapalooza!", featuring a broadcast of the best performances from Chicago, IL's three-day festival (which takes place a week earlier), of bands like Kings of Leon, Jane’s Addiction, Rise Against, Depeche Mode, The Killers, Tool and many more. The guys are also doing a full-on Twitter assault, tracking all the trends involving the bands, the park, the parties, the cities, etc. during the festival. So if you're not Chicago for the festival this weekend, check in on Fuse on August 15 for highlights. And get about 50 free tracks from performers right here.

Live: The BPA play Terminal 5 + on TV next week

Jun 16, 09

Obviously, they'd be playing an opening set for Fatboy Slim, because, well, Norman Cook heads both of these identities, whether as the maniac conductor du jour of The BPA or as the big-beat one-man lightning rod known as Fatboy Slim. In any event, the show in question is next Wednesday night at behemoth venue Terminal 5 (in our opinion one of the worst venues in New York City) which finds a headlining performance by the one and only party destroyer. Doors are at 8pm. In other BPA-related news, the cast is set to perform on both "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" while they're here.

Dates:

June 22 New York, NY The Late Show with David Letterman
June 23 New York, NY Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
June 24 New York, NY Terminal 5

Tube: MSTRKRFT on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" tonight

Mar 18, 09

Tonight on "Jimmy Kimmel Live", Al-P and JFK aka MSTRKRFT will be bringing the "B.O.U.N.C.E.", jumping out of the small screen with crunching beats and whiplash synths, complete with N.O.R.E. and Isis from Thunderheist complimenting the duo's ubiquitous banger with vocals.  Kimmel's show starts promptly at 12:05am and the performance should be somewhere near the program's end, but don't quote us on that.  Fist Of God came out yesterday and the duo are on the American leg of their world tour right now, playing both SXSW and Winter Music Music (they'll also be at Webster Hall on April 3).

Making their television debut, the cutesy-as-fuck indie pop band from right here in NYC, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, will be appearing on the NBC program "Last Call with Carson Daly" on April 1, the same night they'll play Spaceland in Los Angeles.  The group is also playing ten (!) shows in Austin this week for South By Southwest and their exceptional self-titled debut is out now.

Tube: White Lies to make US television debut on March 24

Mar 04, 09

Gloomy, dark rockers White Lies (one of our certain favorites for this year) are set to make their live television debut in the US when they appear March 24 on the "Late Show with David Letterman".  We have no idea what they'll play, but something tells us it'll be bleak and gothy.  But on the opposite end of the spectrum, the boys also seem to have a smashing sense of humor, as evidenced by this BBC Radio 1 cover of Kanye West's "Love Lockdown".

Tube: Kanye West did "Storytellers" last night + new remix

Mar 01, 09

So, prior to us going out last night (we sort of had a meltdown over a bunch of stuff...way burned out we think), we caught bits of the anticipated TV debut of Kanye West's "Storytellers" episode for VH1.  Now, we'd seen screencaps of the show--West's weirdo jheri curl mullet included--but the actual performance was actually marginally good.  We weren't going to even think of watching all 90 minutes of the show, but we caught the beginning.  If you missed it, go here for more info and to watch clips.

Setlist:

01 Nightmare
02 RoboCop
03 Flashing Lights
04 Amazing
05 Say You Will
06 Stronger
07 Good Life
08 Heartless
09 Touch the Sky

Everyone's favorite weirdo kids show, "Yo Gabba Gabba!", came back for yet another wild season of dancing robots, fluffies and celebrities this past September and if the first season's guests are anything to go by (I'm From Barcelona, Datarock, Of Montreal, The Roots, The Shins, Hot Hot Heat, Jimmy Eat World), there's going to be way more fun to be had brought to you by one of wackiest minds in music, The Aquabats' Christian Jacobs.  A CD's just been put out exclusively on iTunes of some of the most memorable songs from season one.  The Ting Tings singing their version of Altered Images' "Happy Birthday" is crucial and really anything with Biz Markie gets our seal.

03 Yo Gabba Gabba! - I Like To Dance

Video: HSBC gets granola with Joanna Newsom

Sep 29, 08

The commercial spot is called "Lumberjack" and it uses the delightful cackle/cat yawn of Joanna Newsom with "Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie" from  the Milk-Eyed Mender LP.  We have to applaud HSBC as this may be our favorite and most emotionally-stirring ad we've seen all year (or at least one that doesn't have all of those things AND cavemen in it).  Banking never sounded so environmentally aware.
