Web: NPR posts entire Moby concert from Berlin

Oct 15, 09

NPR has just released this near-two-hour set from Moby, probably the most important person in techno music in the early 1990s and one of the more important figures in pop music as a whole in the last ten or so years, recorded live in Berlin at a concert on his Wait For Me world tour back in June of this year, which ensconces material from the electronic music icon's library of albums (more than a few are represented here) over the course of twenty-one tracks and various emotional highs, lows and the in-betweens. It's been ten years since the mass-appeal breaking point of Play and nearly twenty years since he first arose out of the nothingness of Connecticut with his second single, "Go", and yet, as this live recording shows, not one of these songs seems out of place even today. These are beloved songs from a beloved artist, someone who continues to explore his own space and who doesn't stop embarking on treks into uncharted territories. And that's just one of the reasons why he's still so well-received and well-respected. He's also proven time and again that he knows how to write a fat pop hook, too, so there's that.

Web: David Guetta wants you to remix "Sexy Bitch"

Aug 29, 09

David Guetta just this week released his fourth record via Astralwerks, the obviously club-ready One Love. To coincide with the release, Guetta is allowing users to "remix" his track (and lead single from the album) "Sexy Bitch", an Akon collaboration. All you need to do is visit the remix site and use your keyboard to manipulate several sound samples and clips. You can even record your brainchild and share it with friends, in the club or outside. For some inspiration, check out the official music video of the single here.

Web: Esser talks to Yours Truly

Jul 30, 09

Shot inside one of the more epic and wonderful record stores still left standing in these united states, Rooky Ricardo’s Records in San Francisco's Haight area, the newest clip to come from Yours Truly features Esser taking some time off in the middle of his US tour dates in support of Breakface to talk vinyl, the detriment of disposable music (mp3s, naturally), old soul favorites and his father and Essex. Short and sweet, but you get a chance to travel down Esser's rabbit's hole even further than you'd gotten the chance to before.

Web: ABC News' "Amplified" goes to hell and back with The Meat Puppets

Jul 23, 09

In a gripping two-part video series from Dan Harris and his web show "Amplified" for ABC News, the Lockwood brothers come clean with their past, their present and themselves. Drugs, crime, death, downward spirals, turmoil, the band were destroying themselves as they were right on the cusp of legitimate success. The storied troubles The Meat Puppets' Curt and Cris Lockwood endured throughout the last two decades is anything but an easy one to tell. Go watch part one here. Part two will follow directly after it plays out. Sewn Together, the band's release from last May, is out now and they're planning west coast dates in the very near future.

Web: Help remember Michael Jackson + raise money for kids charity

Jul 16, 09

Every so often, we like to get our hands in on things that just scream "good cause" or "for the betterment of society" and stuff like that, and this new, spend-25-bucks-and-be-immortalized-in-helping-to-pay-tribute-while-also-doing-something-great-for-children thing just hit us smack in the face with it's perfect notion of equal parts lending a hand and remembering a loved one. This time, we're speaking of a memorial effort for the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Following the passing of Michael Jackson, www.ImissyouMJ.com was formed to pay tribute to the king of pop and in tandem to help to raise money for the organization. ImissyouMJ.com is a collective photo memorial that includes 10,000 photo plots available for purchase. The plots come together to form a mosaic of MJ’s famous white glove. A $25 donation allows you to submit your own photo into the mosaic and receive a copy of this poster once the squares have been filled. Proceeds go to Rock for Kids and the poster itself will be presented to the Jackson family as a tribute. TIME.com has listed this as one of the top ten places to pay tribute to Michael Jackson.

Web: Esser is up for mtvU's "Freshmen" video of the week

Jul 10, 09

"Headlock", the more-than-interesting schoolyard dance video from Esser's debut, Breakface, is up for the collective voting for the "best of the week" video contest from the college-based mtvU's show "The Freshmen". Today happens to be the last day to vote for the young lad, but we have a feeling it's going to be alright. He did, after all, get a bump from Madonna. To cast your vote for Esser, head on over to the web site for mtvU's "The Freshmen". Esser plays the Loop Festival in Brighton, UK on Sunday.

Tomorrow, July 1,at the clock strike of 2pm join Island Records recording artists (and friends) Tinchy Stryder and Frankmusik each on their own Twitter pages (@Frankmusik, @Tinchy Stryder) for the exclusive track recording session, all being done for Mixmag. They'll be recording it all at Frankmusik’s home studio in Thornton Heath, UK and there's no official word on whether the track will get a proper release/Internet leak. Web: Lissy Trullie talks to ABC News' "Amplified"

Jun 16, 09

ABC newscaster Dan Harris, a self-described (on his Web site, at least) "indie rock fan" got to hang with the (his words) "hipper than thou" downtown kids in Lissy Trullie and talk shop with the enigmatic, deep-voiced ingenue for his "Amplified" video webcast. Harris talked to Trullie about separating persona from person, what her given names are and the fandom of Courtney Love, among other things. Check it out right here. Trullie's EP, Self-Taught Learner, is out now.

Video: NPR explores the history of the boombox

May 18, 09

From LL Cool J to Fab Five Freddy to a photographer who owns a retardedly awesome 41 ghetto blasters, we don't actually have any idea how we missed this story, from NPR's video vault, when it came out three weeks ago. But not a bother, because we've watched the ten-minute piece and we absolutely feel compelled to share it with you all. It brings you up-to-speed on the history of portable music, and for those of you NOT born before the age of CD-Rs and iPods, get educated.

Web: Team Robespierre needs your help to get on MTV's rotation

Mar 31, 09

Every week, the mtvU show "The Freshmen" highlights five acts they think are at the breaking point.  They announce the five acts and then fans can vote online for their faves.  The winner each week has their video get into rotation on the channel and (who knows?) maybe even the big brother nets as well.  And even though Brooklyn's Team Robespierre's track "88th Precinct" and its video have been out for what seems like forever, we love the synth-heavy party tracks that Ty and the boys make, so they get our vote, no contest.  Here are this week's nominees:

Nippsey Hustle - "Hussle in the House"
Loney Dear - "Airport Surroundings"
Corneille - "Back to Life"
Team Robospierre - "88th Precinct"
J*Davey - "Slooow"

Vote Here: http://freshmen.mtvu.com/
